Petition calling on Kildare County Council to make Kildangan Bridge safe
Last week (28/07/2016) Sinn Féin members called door to door with a petition calling on Kildare County Council (KCC) to make the bridge in the centre of Kildangan Village safe. This bridge has been the concern of residents for years now and I have made many representations on their behalf over this. Deputy Stanley said:
“As a local TD I have been campaigning and highlighting the seriousness of Kildangan bridge for the past 3 years. Cllr. Thomas Redmond has been raising it at KCC meetings and with the KCC roads department.
Within the past week I met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kildare County Council and raised the matter with him.
“An extensive list of works was drawn up late last year by KCC to make both the bridge safe and the section of road from the Cross Keys Junction to the primary school. This would have an estimated cost of €450,000. There is still no commitment to funding for this.
Kildangan Bridge is probably the most dangerous section of road in South Kildare and a recent accident on the bridge underlines the need for the safety issues to be addressed as a matter of urgency.”
“The bridge is narrow with a pole in the middle which further reduces the width remaining for vehicles to cross over. There is no path for pedestrians and school going children. It also has very poor lighting and no pedestrian safety barriers. This all creates havoc during morning rush hour as children and parents from 3 estates (Castle Park, The Paddocks and Abbotts Wood) have to cross it to get to school.”
Concluding Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley said
“The serious danger that this bridge poses has been neglected. Sinn Féin are demanding that this matter be prioritised
