Elected to the Dáil in February 2011, Brian is Sinn Féin’s Spokeperson on Environment, Community and Local Government. Brian is Chairperson of Treo Nua, Portlaoise (Centre for Education and Community Development), a member of the Joint Policing Committee and previously served as Mayor of Portlaoise, a member of Laois County Council, the Midland Regional Authority and Laois VEC. As a public representative for over 17 years he has gained immeasurable experience in dealing with both national and local issues.
Brian has introduced several important Bills in the Dáil including The Protection of Water Services Bill (to prevent privatization of water services), Wind Turbine Regulation Bill ( to regulate wind farms), a Derelict Sites Bill, a Water Fluoridation Bill (to stop the fluoridation of our water supply), a Climate Change Bill, Legislation to reduce the voting age and the Planning and Development Bill (to put an independent Planning Regulator in place).
With the creation of the new Laois/South Kildare Constituency in 2012, Brian immediately set up clinics in Monasterevin and has worked on a range of issues in Monasterevin, Kildangan and Kilberry.
Brian gives 100% as a public representative and has earned a reputation for being hard-working and reliable. He will campaign for a fair recovery and ensure the people of Laois/South Kildare have a strong advocate in the Dáil.
